At this year's charity ski race on the Hermann Maier FIS World Cup course in Flachau, the pairing of Girardelli/Schneider took advantage of bib number 1 and conjured up a precision landing in the snow. The Walchhofer/Ebner team was close behind. Third place went to the Herbst/Wiesberger team.

30 years of the Ski World Cup had to be celebrated in a fitting manner. On the occasion of this anniversary, Flachau skiing legend Hermann Maier took over the patronage of this year's Star Challenge for the benefit of a charitable institution.

The procedure: One skiing legend and one celebrity from the world of sport or society competed as a team. The skiing legend set a time. Before the start of their own run, the celebrities were allowed to decide how many bonus seconds they would like to have. The winners: the pair with the smallest time difference. The winner's cheque of € 15,000 went to a charity of his or her choice.

This year, the Girardelli/Schneider team won the team event by just 0.02 seconds ahead of runners-up Michael Walchhofer & Max Ebner. The third place on the podium went to the Herbst/Wiesberger team. The best time was set by the host Hermann Maier himself with a time of 24.67 seconds. Together with his team partner Melissa Naschenweng, he took ninth place in the gliding competition.

The proceeds of the race, amounting to EUR 15,000, went in equal parts to the "Herzenskinder Österreich" and "Mentor Foundation" organisations.
